5 songs I’m listening to: 21/03/2018

I’m thinking of making this a weekly segment: a post where I just let you all know 5 songs that are in constant rotation at the moment – it doesn’t have to be recent, just the songs I’ve got stuck in my head and the ones I think you need to hear. This is gonna be tough, there’s so much music out there that I’m always playing but I’ll try and be as ruthless as I can so let’s give it a go – no ranking, here are my 5 top songs this week:

  1. Love Scars by Trippie Redd: I’ve been hearing so much about this guy recently, so I thought I’d top up my knowledge and go through his catalogue. He has a unique albeit repetitive sound, and maybe you could draw comparisons to him and Lil Uzi Vert in terms of style, but this song is a banger – the video goes hard too. This almost-alien beat and Trippie’s sing/scream style compliment each other perfectly, and reigning in at a cool 2 minutes, it doesn’t get too boring. Definitely one of his best songs out there.
  2. Wanted You by Nav & Lil Uzi Vert: I avoided this song at first because I thought it would be pretty basic. These two on their own I like, but together I just thought it wouldn’t work. I was wrong – this catchy little tune showcases both artists at their best in their braggadocious states. Loved the chorus as well, and the final verse where Nav and Uzi trade bars is a great moment.
  3. Sad! by Xxxtentacion: I did make a post about this song when it came out and also about my top X songs, but at the moment I can’t get this one out of my head. It’s blowing my mind how well it’s doing in the charts – I know it’s quite catchy, but the lyrics and the message within is actually quite dark. Nevertheless it’s a great tune and, once again, is another song that showcases X’s diverse range of skills as an artist.
  4. Boom! by Lil Yachty and Ugly God: This song comes off Yachty’s latest tape, Lil Boat 2, and features Ugly God at his enigmatic best. One of the better songs off this relatively tame album – the beat is pretty smooth, and both artists glide it with ease and charisma.
  5. 123 by Smokepurpp and Murda Beatz: This is another one to go in the “Smokepurpp Bangers” category, such a good blend of bass and industrial sound thanks to Murda Beatz (who’s been working with some huge artists of late). Smokepurpp does his thing as usual, nothing too deep or different, but one that’s been thrown in the party playlist.

Let me know what you guys have been listening to lately.
